The 2027 RockShox ZEB Ultimate is the latest generation of RockShox's gravity-focused single-crown fork, extensively redesigned around the new LinearXL air spring, Charger 3.2 damper and ButterWagonTech lubrication system.
Built for aggressive enduro, freeride and eMTB riding, the ZEB combines a stiff 38mm chassis with a more linear, coil-like spring characteristic and extensive damping control. The result is a fork designed to remain composed through steep terrain, repeated impacts and hard, fast riding while still providing the adjustability of an air fork.
This isn't simply a new damper inside the previous ZEB. The latest generation brings significant changes to the way the fork moves through its travel, manages bottom-out and maintains lubrication throughout the service interval.
One of the biggest changes is the LinearXL air spring, developed to produce a more consistent and predictable spring curve with a more coil-like feel.
The goal is a fork that remains supple early in its travel while providing strong mid-stroke support without an excessive ramp-up as it approaches full travel.
For riders, that translates to improved traction and sensitivity through smaller impacts while maintaining the support needed when pushing hard through compressions, braking zones and steep terrain.
The more linear spring curve is paired with Adjustable Bottom Out (ABO) to provide additional control at the end of the fork's travel.
Rather than relying on an increasingly progressive air spring to prevent harsh bottom-outs, ABO allows the ZEB to retain its more linear behaviour through the majority of its travel while providing dedicated end-stroke control when it's needed.
This gives riders the ability to chase a supple, predictable suspension feel without sacrificing support on larger impacts.
One of the most interesting additions to the new ZEB Ultimate is ButterWagonTech.
A specially designed matrix within the upper tubes carries lubrication to the fork bushings as the suspension moves through its travel. This maintains a more consistent supply of oil at the bushings, helping reduce friction and maintain smooth operation throughout the service interval.
It's a relatively simple idea aimed at addressing something that has a significant influence on real-world fork performance: keeping the sliding surfaces properly lubricated.
The new Charger 3.2 RC2 receives revised compression and rebound tunes specifically developed to work with the characteristics of the LinearXL air spring.
Independent High-Speed Compression and Low-Speed Compression adjustment gives riders control over support and impact response without the adjustments interfering with one another.
RockShox has also revised the compression controls with a numbered adjustment bezel centred around zero, making settings easier to understand, record and repeat.
Charger 3.2 is also designed to operate extremely quietly, reducing the damper noise that can be noticeable on some suspension systems.
RockShox ButterCups remain on the Ultimate model, helping isolate high-frequency vibration before it reaches the rider.
RockShox states that ButterCups can block 20% of high-frequency trail chatter, helping reduce vibration transmitted into the hands and arms during long, rough descents.
Combined with the new LinearXL spring and lubrication system, the focus of the latest ZEB isn't simply absorbing large hits – it's reducing friction and unwanted vibration across the entire suspension system.
The ZEB retains its 38mm aluminium upper tubes, giving it the chassis stiffness required for long-travel enduro bikes, freeride bikes and modern full-power eMTBs.
That stiffness helps maintain steering precision when braking heavily, loading the front wheel through corners and riding rough terrain at speed.
The ZEB is particularly well suited to heavier eMTBs, where additional system weight places significantly greater loads through the fork.
The ZEB Ultimate is available in 150mm, 160mm, 170mm and 180mm travel, with 27.5" and 29" options depending on configuration.
It's also officially e-bike approved and uses a 15x110mm Boost axle, with compatibility for brake rotors up to 220mm.
For riders building or upgrading an aggressive enduro or eMTB, the ZEB Ultimate sits at the top of RockShox's conventional single-crown range.
